Submission + - David and Goliath Battle Between Registrars (dnjournal.com) 1

RightsProtector writes: After register.cc had been around for over 10 years, Register.com tried to take the domain name from its current owner, Domain-It! Inc. (a smaller, competing registrar) through a UDRP arbitration. The UDRP is meant to be a way for trademark holders to protect their names from Cyber-Squatters. But the policy has also become a way for large corporations to take away legitimate domain names from their owners. In this particular case, Register.com was not even registering domain names when DomainIt bought register.cc in 1997. What's more, 'register' is the word used to describe what EVERY registrar does. In light of these facts, the UDRP panel ruled in favor of DomainIt.
