According to a Guardian newspaper report, a private detective working for the tabloid gained access to Milly Dowler's phone messages after she was abducted in March 2002 and the detective, Glenn Mulcaire, is alleged to have deleted voicemail messages on Dowler's phone, giving her parents "false hope" she might still be alive and thereby complicating the police investigation. According to one source, when her friends and family discovered that her voicemail had been cleared, they concluded that this must have been done by Dowler herself and, therefore, that she must still be alive. The move will come at some point after March 1, when Google will start scaling back IE6 support for Google Docs and Google Sites. Google announced that decision on Friday, two weeks after the company admitted that hackers had breached its network and stolen information. 'We plan to stop supporting older browsers for the rest of the Google Apps suite, including Gmail, later in 2010,' a Google spokesman confirmed. On Google's no-support list along with IE6 are Mozilla's Firefox 2.0, Apple's Safari 2.0 and Google's own Chrome 3.0.

Jacky writes: Redmond has provided a Release Candidate build of Microsoft Office 2010 to a select group of testers. "Microsoft made a release candidate available to members in the Technology Adoption Program (TAP)," a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed with Ars. "This is one of Microsoft's planned milestones in the engineering process; however they do not have plans to make this new code set available broadly."
Microsoft uses TAP to obtain real world customer feedback on its prerelease products from its partners. These partners have the opportunity to talk to the product engineering team, get help in deploying their Microsoft solutions, get early product education, and of course use feedback to influence the product during its development. The fact that Microsoft is not considering giving this build, or some RC version, to the public is a little worrying given that the company still has four months till Office 2010 is released. Granted, the final build will likely be compiled much sooner, but generally speaking, only providing a single public beta is uncharacteristic of the company. When we asked Microsoft about more public Office 2010 builds, the company refused to reveal anything. "We have nothing additional to share at this time," the spokesperson told Ars.

Where the app gives some element of offline browsing (e.g. the wonderful Guardian newspaper iPhone app in the UK) there's a real benefit to be had. Can't see the point in just copying content into an app for the sake of saying "we've got a iPhone app" though.

The news comes as the war between IW and MW2's fans rages over the decision to go with IWnet hosting instead of dedicated servers. Unhappy players were quick to come up with hacks that would allow their own servers and various other changes."
Despite the dedicated-server complaints, Modern Warfare 2 has sold ridiculously well.

If expected to respond with more than just a phone call (e.g. get dialled in within 30 minutes or onsite within 60 minutes) then should get paid, because this limits what you can do while oncall. That might include staying at home, or abstaining from beer, or cancelling trips out with the family.
