"...but that it was of a decommissioned server."
Um, who cares if it's live, going, or in a pile in a room. If it has valid data on it it is still a viable target and needs to be secured in whatever way is necessary. It's even worse if it was a system that was still online, supposed to be marked for decommissioned and they just didn't keep up on securing it anymore.
I like the new mobile site it is very clean, but the biggest problem I have is you can't select your comment score threshold. I like to browse from 2 to 4 depending on the number of comments I get back, but the "Top Rated" link doesn't give me as good of control over what I want to see at the time and quite often I'll get 1's in there.
My only other issue is that it is *very* touchy and sometimes trying to grab the screen to scroll gets interpreted as a tap and it loads up the article.
Other than that, great job guys!
Already has once. I had a '01 Intrigue with OnStar that required an upgrade because it still used the old AMPS system. Plus side was it had a 3-watt transmitter (unlike the normal 0.6-watt on a cell phone) and the analog network covered damn near 99% of the US even in the middle of nowhere you'd have perfect signal. Downside was I think they wanted something like $400 to do the upgrade and I was getting rid of my car anyway.
They'll see what happens when their visits drop. People can't be expected to remember every paper that there is and go to each individual site when attempting to find a specific story. This will only be to the papers' detriment.
You have got to be kidding. I was in a meeting yesterday and 6 of us had iPhones on the table, only 1 had a case on it. Most tech people I know don't use cases because they know how to handle their phones and not drop them.
What about PowerShell? Or are we only dealing with Linux scripting languages (cue jokes here).
So what is exactly is suffering for gaming? Has the hardware been gimped? Can you not just pop a game in and play it? The XBox is being slotted as a media platform, not just a gaming platform and it seems to be doing that rather well, just look at the sales. Just because it's not the uber-hardcore gaming machine you're expecting does not make it bad. If you really want that go build a PC. But as long as it plays games and you still have access to game content, all while providing additional entertainment and media options, I fail to see the issue.
To be honest, I use mine mainly for Netflix and other media related options. Occasionally I do play a game, so it fits perfectly for me. It's no longer just a "gaming console".
I guess it all comes down to how often do you want to pay for it? One time up front, or every single time you want to listen to it. For me it's the former. Also, the biggest fallacy in the article is "If their music is constantly available anywhere on any device, then 'what's the difference?" What happens when the service you're streaming from is no longer available or the RIAA revokes the licenses. What happens then? I guess people will just move on to the next hit and not care.
So that look really cool and all, but I'd like to know, what if they diverted the beam and did not have the the "beam dump" on the end? What would the proton's do?
I think the way I like to see it is a common data access and back-end processor and then exposing things via APIs so that the front ends can be written in native/web/smoke signals, whatever you want allowing you to take advantage of the target devices best capabilities.
If you're out San Antonio way, I can give you a tour of Rackspace's Headquarters. Can't claim to be as cool as pixar, but got quite a few people who'd probably want to meet you.
More like "Jeff's Nuts" roasting on an open fire.
Make me wonder how they rigged that one up.
Holding it with copper-mesh lined gloves?
It usually varies every place I've been between the quality/age of the hardware and the competency of the users. Additionally it depends on how automated the system is, and whether there's a dedicated support staff. Small places I've been I've find you can do about 45-75 comfortably... It was a bit stretched when it reached 100:1
