Mac OS uses launchd, FreeBSD uses init.d, many Linuxes use systemd.
And Solaris uses SMF.
This is more than just nuance; each of these systems are different and completely incompatible. It really means that the argument of "It's just Unix" and therefore the same/similar is ignorant or possibly maliciously false to further a political point.
This was more to say "we're serious, and watch what happens if you are not as serious about it as we are"
It also screams "I'm a liability. If you don't do what I want I will hurt you, even if you've done nothing wrong." This applies to this situation but also in future situations.
