Indeed. But in defense of OpenCL, These three pages are mostly initialisation stuff. Once you have that done, the remainder of the code is similar in length to the length it would have were it written in CUDA.

And then, a Hello World in CUDA is about eight lines. A Hello World in OpenCL is three pages.

That all depends on the graphics you use. I run many games on my 6 year old i7 920, with an equally old NVIDIA GTX 265. The card is old, but for the games I like, it is more than sufficient. It all depends on how much 3D stuff you want to use.

Gaming on Linux is done with NVIDIA.

The fact that hereditary edits can me made, does not imply that we can immediately cure all hereditary diseases as well.

Although, do not mistake me, I am all for it, were we able to remove those diseases from the world.

Even if scientists in the Western World ban human editing, there are many parts of the world (For example China; India; South America) where ethics are not always that high up the list of priorities. The technology will be used, as long as there is money to be made by doing so.

From that point of view, we might as well open up the technology for every one to use, and let everybody handle it as he or she sees fit.

But taxi drivers are often weirdos, who hardly speak a word of a language I understand as well. And they often do not really know the way all that well... I have no experience with Uber drivers, but it can hardly get any worse. More over, legal taxi drivers beating up Uber drivers is really going a bit too far. We have a legal system to settle disagreements.

She will have to write articles, and presentations. In physics, this is exclusively done in LaTeX, because of the equations. The faculty is likely to have computation machines in case she needs to do heavy simulations. Heavy computation power is not necessary on the laptop.

I would suggest selecting from the laptops with a very good screen one with relatively low other specs. Because reading many articles becomes tiresome on a low resolution.

I always buy top of the line fans. Saves a lot of trouble: they are so quiet that I do not hear them (all I hear is the air flow along the components), and they last for ages.

As I have fairly big hands, I went for the CyMotion initially because the flat area of the keys is a bit bigger, which turns out to work very well for me. I have never noticed any sideways motion, or squishyness. The keys always react very sharply to my touch.

Essentially, any Cherry keyboard has served well. Many manufacturers of keyboards do it beside their main thing. However, Cherry has keyboard manufacturing as their main thing. And by now, the resulting keyboards are very good and still affordable.

My best one so far is the Cherry CyMotion Master Linux keyboard. And the only 'linux'-thing is that is has a picture of Tux on the button that on traditional keyboards displays the Windows logo.

As more and more extremophiles are found (bacteria living on radiation, on pure oil, on sulphur, you name it...) the number of habitable zones will grow. However, whether those zones will be able to support life that will eventually develop into a space faring civilisation... I am not so sure.
