As more and more extremophiles are found (bacteria living on radiation, on pure oil, on sulphur, you name it...) the number of habitable zones will grow. However, whether those zones will be able to support life that will eventually develop into a space faring civilisation... I am not so sure.

There is so much music, that it is almost impossible to be truly different than everything else. And should an artist be required/expected to test new work with all other previous music ever made? Sometimes it is OK to be left behind. I still carry no smartphone. I still register my tax forms on paper, because i refuse to get a digital ID, which is at least annually in the news for being broken. I have no facebook account. People call me crazy, but my life seems to be all the better for it.

Many people on Slashdot (including myself) work in IT, many as programmers. So we know how broken and buggy most (if not all) software is. So we are hesitant to hand over more and more aspects of our lives (that work perfectly well without software) to software, knowing that we will encounter problems with it. As the aspects become more essential. Such as money, and health, we grow more hesitant.

Not slow and inconvenient. It would require intelligence. If you attack satellites with an axe in a matter not unlike Don Quichote attacking wind mills, you sadly lack this virtue. Planning and building up to seriously influencing politics is way out of their league.
