Comment Re:What? (Score 1) 382

It's pure opinion of what's a joke petition and what isn't. If you say the death star is a joke petition and there's no frivolous determination of such petitions, then either the administration can arbitrarily choose or perhaps just treat them all as jokes. I think the response to the Tesla petition is fine. The administration should do nothing on this, not because I don't care but looking at it from their perspective, it's not worth it. It's a hugely problematic, very inflammatory discussion to talk about taking away state rights in favor of federal rights. The white house should pick their battles on that and this is certainly not one of them. So, while Tesla may be less of a joke petition than the Death Star, it's still a joke petition.

Comment Towards Us (Score 5, Informative) 133

The Virgo Cluster galaxy, M87, has ejected an entire star cluster, throwing it toward us at more than two million miles per hour.

I can imagine people getting alarmed at this, but they shouldn't. If it's truly directly towards us (unlikely), and never veers off course (unlikely), it would still take about 18.3 million years to reach us.

A similar comment can be made about movies. I hate remakes and especially reboots. Even movies made from book are better than remakes. Can you come up with something new?

However, I disagree a little with Woz here because it's critical to improve existing technology. True innovation is difficult and important, but improving those first bits of technology is probably as crucial. The obvious case in point is the mobile phone. It has been around quite a while, but our lives are greatly affected by recent technologies (including infrastructure).
