However, my manual installation left nice log messages from the Installer.
Then I see this, dated yesterday (21-April-10), at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/chat/thread?tid=7931301976c11fc1&hl=en
"Yesterday, we released the 1.1.2 update for the Google voice and video chat plug-in. This update includes all of the new features of version 1.1.1 and fixes the issues that some users with 1.1.1 were experiencing with their browser not recognizing the plug-in. All current installations will automatically update within the next day or two. If you don't want to wait, you can visit http://www.google.com/chat/video and re-run the installer."
I'll be damned — a browser plugin that auto-updates, attaining root privileges in the process, and wipes its tracks!
This makes me Very Unhappy. It modified my computer without asking and wasted over an hour of my time. Why was there nothing in the logs? Better yet, why didn't I get a "Google Talk plugin wants to update, OK?" request?
Needless to say said plugin is gone from my MacBook.
