Forgot to mention that one of the best aspects of Gentoo is that it is a rolling release distro. No need to reinstall everything now and then.

I've used Gentoo on all of my computers since 2005, be it a desktop or a server. Not going to change that :)

Almost the same here... First computer was a ZX81 with 1kB of RAM, current has 4 GB :)

I went digital quite a long time ago, and my current main camera is a Micro Four Thirds Olympus, but lately I've been rediscovering the joys of film photography with my Dad's old Yashicaflex C (1955, 60mm film) and Miranda Fv (1967, 35mm film). I'm even thinking of starting to develop the black-and-white films for myself.

I definitely wouldn't switch distros for just to play games via Steam. If Valve chooses that route, I will not use Steam, ever!

My Desktop-Of-Choice Fluxbox (on Linux) doesn't even have support for icons, so can it ever be described as 'messy' in this context???

I've always hated the "Icons-On-A-Desktop"-design priciple. Back then when I still used Windows(TM) (That's almost 10 years ago...); I went to great lengths to remove every icon from my desktop - even the trashcan. Now as a Linux user, I use desktop environments / window managers which either does not support icons on desktop at all, or allow to turn them off.

I've ALWAYS wanted to paint my car pink and put 'Hello Kitty' stickers on it!!! Now I have a perfect excuse for doing it :)

(Then again, I've wanted to give a similar treatment to my shotgun... Should I be worried???)

What amazes me most is that someone actually buys something protected by hardware dongles...??? I wouldn't. Ever.

A few years back I was very surprised to find that there wasn't any 'Tape Calculator Emulators' for Linux. I seem to have missed this; thanks for bringing this to attention! (Although it seems to be more-or-less abandoned project... I wonder whether it compiles on modern Gentoo?).

The tape calculator I have used for some time is SuperbCalc: http://www.mariottini.net/roberto/superbcalc/. It is java-based, so it will run on all OS'es.

Missing option: The 'inline ads' practiced by Intellitxt, Kontera etc. are the most annoying form of advertisement since the original pop-up craze!

I second that. Originally, I tried to be courteous and filter out only the most annoying ads (popups, inline ads (intellitxt, kontera etc.), flash-based), but I grew tired of tinkering with adblock and currently filter out ALL ads. Instead of blaming the users, the 'well-behaving' ad companies should put the blame on other, aggressive ad companies, who alienate the users from the whole idea of online advertisement.

During the 10+ years I've been using PC's with various OS'es, I have never used CapsLock intentionally. Whenever I hit it, it is always by mistake...
