That's probably what got the woman in the picture of 'only person to be directly hit by a meteor'.

What I don't get is the jump from: 1000 people were injured in Russia two years ago, to: because only one person was ever directly hit by a meteor therefore strikes should be of no practical concern.

A detection system for the size of meteor that can injur 1000 might yeild all kinds of interesting side discoveries and technologies beyond just being a detection system.

I remember belittling an Apple owner back then because he paid $50 to have a technician just like you re-seat a ram chip that had come loose after he moved. Otherwise to break the sticker and do it himself would mean no authorized dealer would be allowed to work on it for real repairs.

They should learn not to keep all their "investments" in options and other derivatives. Then be amazed when the market reverses and wipes them out. That's called "gambling". Derivatives should only make up a small portion of your portfolio as a hedge and then only when you really know what you're doing.
I had a couple of uncles who had millions in call options in early '99 who blasted me for being a fool for telling them to get out. A year later they were singing the "but nobody saw it coming!" song.

Well duh, ANY engine noise is "energy wasted on shaking the air" as any engineer can tell you. A 787 is nice and quiet compared to other airliners but it's still burning fuel to shake some air. It is a legit question to ask if it is *economical* to shake the air at the sonic boom level.

Other items specify Congress may not, meaning States may. The terms "Congress" and "States" are not just interchangable, generic terms for "government" in the Constitution.

In all fairness, United is a huge company and like any huge company has tremendous inertia. Probably it's nearly impossible to get IT security bugs properly identified and fixed even if the CEO came to daily scrum meetings. A bounty for external parties is at least a realization they have this problem.
