Correction - guns are designed to move a projectile. Their use can be either to destroy life, or protect life. The choice rests with the individual.

The problem with regulation, is that only law abiding citizens obey. Marijuana, cocaine, and many other drugs are all regulated. Doesn't stop their spread.
So knowing that, why would you suggest we regulate a tool that is the most effective device known to man to protect life? I would not want to defend myself with merely a kitchen knife if my assailant was wielding a gun. Regardless of the fact that its illegal in every state to commit a crime while carrying a gun. Obviously my attacker didn't read that law, otherwise he would have not carried a gun while he was attacking me in my kitchen.

Take the swear words, and other non-decent forms of expression and put them on cable. Paid-for subscription channels fall under different decency regulations than do OVER THE AIR broadcasts... And what is at issue here is over the air broadcasts.

Its not a logical discourse on censorship. Fact of the matter is, its a prime time, over the air network, and it is regulated to try to keep SOME decency on our airwaves.
You want to let your children grow up with horrible attitudes and bad language, put them in front of cable. That's why those restrictions are relaxed on cable TV - you've made the choice to bring that into your home and are paying a monthly subscription for it. Over the air broadcasts should not be an avenue for inappropriate material. Hence why decency laws MATTER for over the air.

Assuming your argument is true (troops on ground, heli protecting), it would seem the logical thing to do is get confirmation from those troops on the ground. I assume there are better ways to do this on the ground than from a moving platform, especially if you want accurate information. I assume, further, it would include heli crew calling down to WARN the ground troops, who would reconnoiter and report back. Your question proposes a false choice.

Personal health is a prerequisite for a healthy economy. If that guy could leave his job for a better one, without worrying that it would end his wife's leukemia treatments, or end his child's asthma medication, isn't that a good thing? That's more choice. That is real liberty there, not some abstract "we-are-free-to-fuck-you" kind of liberty. We live in a powerful country, but don't rest on your laurels. If we want to compete with the Chinese and the Indians, who are smart and very, very motivated, we need healthcare as a basic right.

The average Chinese citizen saves 40% of their earnings, because they are responsible for themselves, if they get sick, lose their job, etc. That is how it should be. When did we get this idea in our heads that our government OWES us a paycheck, owes us a job, owes us healthcare, owes us anything other than what the constitution says..
