Comment Stop shipping hives to California in winter! (Score 1) 220

So maybe greedy almond growers are the real problem. I can't imagine anything more stressful than doing this.

"..80 percent of the world's almonds come from California's central valley, an 800,000 acre area of almond orchards that are 100 percent dependent on bees pollinating the trees. Surprisingly, almonds are the number one agricultural product in California.

Once a year, in late winter, 1.5 million bee hives from around the country are delivered to these orchards where the bees' pollination efforts take place over the course of just a few days. It's the largest mass-pollination effort in the world."

You're basically correct except for the facts. Werner did not start his career as a Nazi, he joined later, and he did not work on weapons that killed many (not countless, they did count) Brits until much later. I know that Nazi Germany lost and thus history is skewed to favor the winner's view point but after 70+ years maybe the truth will be acceptable. Perhaps this would be more correct and convey the same effect: Wernher von Braun's early career as a Nazi who helped develop the Retribution Weapon 2, aka V-2 rocket, (responsible for the deaths of 9 thousand Brits) did not prevent him from becoming an American hero.

Maybe before they do the ethics thing they might want to get some major agreement on just what is the ideal temperature. At least when there is nobody/everybody at the helm it's hard to get too mad, but just start targeting the climate with techno arrogance and you'll have billions bitching that you screwed them and killed their babies and you should die a horrible death. Unfortunately, they might be right some of the time even if your tech is proper and correct.
