Submission + - Google to release free GPS app for android. (blogspot.com)

iammani writes: The blog begins with "Since 2005, millions of people have relied on Google Maps for mobile to get directions on the go. However, there's always been one problem: Once you're behind the wheel, a list of driving directions just isn't that easy to use. It doesn't tell you when your turn is coming up. And if you miss a turn? Forget it, you're on your own.

Today we're excited to announce the next step for Google Maps for mobile: Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for Android 2.0 devices.

This new feature comes with everything you'd expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone's Internet connection."

It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Hackers make spoof annnouncement of Jobs death (telegraph.co.uk)

iammani writes: Hackers have hijacked a web feed of the Macworld 2009 conference to make spoof announcements about the death of Steve Jobs. The micro-blogging feed at Macrumorslive.com was running smoothly through the first 23 minutes of the keynote speech given my Phil Schiller, senior vice president of marketing at Apple. Then a message saying: "Steve Jobs just died" was posted. Three minutes later, the feed clarified: "Retraction on Steve Jobs comment ... we don't know how that got in our feed. Steve did not die." That prompted another message saying: "Oh wait, sorry, Steve did die. Our condolences." Submission + - Warner Music pulls videos off YouTube (in.com)

iammani writes:

Warner Music Group ordered YouTube on Saturday to remove all music videos by its artists from the popular online video-sharing site after contract negotiations broke down. The talks fell apart early on Saturday because Warner wants a bigger share of the huge revenue potential of YouTube's massive visitor traffic. There were no reports on what Warner was seeking. "We simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide," Warner said in a statement.

Submission + - AmnestyInterna. slams India's New Anti-Terror Bill (in.com)

iammani writes:

The London-based human rights group called on President Pratibha Patil not to approve the legislation, which would double the number of days police can detain terror suspects before filing charges, from 90 days to 180, as well as boost their powers to conduct searches.

"India's experience with previous anti-terrorism laws has shown that they can lead to abusive practices," Amnesty said.

A similar law enacted by the previous govt, POTA, was used twice (out of five times it was used) to arrest politician of opposition party. I hope this new bill proposed, does not turn into yet another POTA.
