Nobody Special writes: Internet Evolution has a review of P2P filtering devices (printer friendly) intended to give ISPs control over the traffic flowing through their networks. The products are at an early stage, and interestingly, many vendors declined to have their products tested, or the results published:
Nevertheless, of the 28 vendors invited, only five agreed to take part, and only under the condition that if they didn't like their results they could withdraw from the test and not be included in this report. In the event, three vendors chose to exercise their right of veto because each of their results were — ummm... how to put this? — "not perfect" for various reasons.
It seems clear that robust filtering is coming, even though these early attempts are stumbling at best. Will the vendors ever get ahead of the protocol designers?
