Submission + - Bipartisan Internet Sales Tax Bill Introduced (itworld.com)

jfruhlinger writes: "Four senators, including both Democrats and Republicans, have introduced a bill that would allow (but not require) states to collect sales tax on items purchased by residents online, even the seller has no physical presence in that state. Sellers would be able to pay through either the existing Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement or a new alternative tax simplification plan. Battle lines are being drawn predictably: brick-and-mortar retailers love the idea, Internet-only sellers hate it."

To each their own. In MW2 I never had to worry if I was joining a server with abusive admins, or that had retarded rules (crouch only server! knives only this round! shotguns only this round!). I never had to worry if I was joining a server with stacked teams built to run up their rankings, and I never had to worry if the game was lying about how many players were actually on their server. In MW2 I just click play and a minute or two later I'm playing. Maybe my computer is at the center of the internet because I very rarely had connection issues. Having played both, if I had to pick I'd take the MW2 matchmaking system any day.

Login into itunes and under payment options select "None.",

I took my credit card off my itunes account a while ago after I started hearing stories on the news of kids running up huge bills and what a nightmare it is to get Apple to act. I can still "buy" the free games, and I don't have to worry about my kid accidentally selecting something that costs money. On the rare occasion that I do want to buy something from Apple it prompts me for payment information and I just have to enter in my credit card information.

This has the added bonus of preventing someone from discovering your username and password and running up a huge bill.

Submission + - Tor anonymizing network Compromised by French rese (thehackernews.com)

An anonymous reader writes: French researchers from ESIEA, a French engineering school, have found and exploited some serious vulnerabilities in the TOR network. They performed an inventory of the network, finding 6,000 machines, many of whose IPs are accessible publicly and directly with the system’s source code. They demonstrated that it is possible to take control of the network and read all the messages that circulate.

But there are also hidden nodes, the Tor Bridges, which are provided by the system that in some cases. Researchers have developed a script that, once again, to identify them. They found 181. "We now have a complete picture of the topography of Tor," said Eric Filiol.
