Submission + - Uwe Boll responds to Wired Postal review

rar writes: "A few days ago Slashdot reported on a critical review of Uwe Boll's Postal movie in Wired. Upset by the negative review, Uwe has now decided to respond in his usual direct tone (some might even call it inflammatory); and the ensuing email exchange with Wired's Chris Kohler makes for a quite entertaining read. To balance the reporting, it can be noted that not everyone shares Chris' dislike for the movie."

Submission + - Don't Kill The Trolls, But Feed Them (seorefugee.com) 2

Henk van Ess writes: "Voelspriet.nl has initiated an idea to rid communities (be it forums, blogs, whatever) of trolls. Not get rid of them by banning them or nuking their posts, no, by accepting their trolly messages and keeping them at ease. The smart thing is that this anti-troll plug-in only shows the trolly stuff to the troll itself. That way, the other community members need not suffer. The idea was presented today on Dutch radio in Radio Online. A free beta plug-in for Wordpress will be available soon."

Submission + - Uwe Boll's Postal movie is actually good? (postal-the-movie.com)

rar writes: "Uwe Boll is a German director known for a number of computer game based movies that generally have not been well received (cf. House of the dead, Alone in the dark). His latest movie, Postal, was previewed at the Cannes Film Festival and now some surprisingly positive reviews have surfaced; see twitchfilm and futuremovies. From the twitchfilm review:

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, stop the presses! This is why, as tempting as it may be, you do not give up on a film maker. Uwe Boll has made a good movie. This is not a joke. This is not a test of the emergency broadcast system. This is honest to god truth. Postal is not merely competent. It's not just okay. It is brash, bold, smart when called for and stupid when required and — most importantly — it is frequently and intentionally laugh out loud funny.
Youtube has a clip of the first minutes of the movie."

Submission + - Music Industry to Jobs: Open up FairPlay

Jabrwock writes: "The music industry responded to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' call for DRM to be discontinued with a counter offer: You first.

Mitch Bainwol, chairman of the RIAA, said that Apple should be opening up FairPlay to work on rivals' devices, rather than telling the industry to drop DRM altogether. Bainwol believes that the market would be better served if the public could chose which device to play their media on, rather than be linked to one particular vendor. But the industry still wants some controls over what kind of choices the public has with regards to how to enjoy that media..."
