Submission + - Alltel dictates customers OS
Jewfro_Macabbi writes: Are you a Linux user considering Alltel's mobile broadband internet service? You may want to think again. After several month of poor service (constant dropped connections), and several months of filing complaints I canceled my mobile broadband service with Alltel. I find paying $59.99 per month for a service offering 50/50 reliability objectionable. In usual manner, I was accessed a $200 early termination fee. I did pay the fee, but I also filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. I consider Alltel broke the contract in failing to adequately provide the service. The most interesting thing, was Alltel's response:
"our records show that Ms. X is currently using an operating system named "Linux". Ms. X was advised that Alltel does not support this system. The operating system "Linux" caused Ms. X to lose her connection or reboot her computer."
I'd like to mention the company which manufacturers the wireless card sold by Alltel (Franklin Wireless CDU-550) makes an official Linux driver. My Linux computer has no issues with "rebooting", I believe that's a well known problem with other OS's. I'd also like to mention that my Windows XP computers had no better luck in maintaining an internet connection.
