When this hit slashdot yesterday, the story was about how a single researcher at a lab in New York speculated that this was going to happen, without any substantive proof.
Today's news is that people are slamming Apple for something that some guy a basement conjectured could happen?
If deforestation needs to stop, tell whomever cares to get the funds together to buy the rainforest. Then they can own the land and protect it.
The REASON that we say PC Master Race is because of keyboard+mouse. Many/most games are ported between consoles and PC if there is a demand for them.
If I wanted to play a handheld, I'd get a handheld. My steam library of PC games
Reading between the lines, this isn't about whether aliens exist. I read this article as, "We spent years evaluating some data. We can't make conclusions. Give us more money."
How quickly we forget history. It's fair to say that every 4-8 years, there's contention. When Trump was elected. When Obama was elected. When Bush was elected.
What about the time protestors against the IMF opened fire on REGULAR ARMY (3rd US Infantry Regiment - The Old Guard) in Washington, when the Old Guard was called out to support the Capitol police? I was there. My roommate got shot. In his flak vest. He was bruised but ok. We killed the protestor that shot at us. With a baton because we weren't allowed to carry firearms. This was in 2000. I was 20 at the time and a junior enlisted soldier. I couldn't tell you if the protest was politically motivated or not; these days, people would be screaming that left wing nutcases were in the streets with guns.
This crap has been happening for decades. All that's changed is the proliferation of more media, more on-demand content, and the "us vs. them" mentality progressing steadily into more divisive territory.
Disclaimer: I don't care about politics. I abstain from voting for a myriad of reasons, the foremost of which is that I gave the bulk of my life and health to serving my country. I've done enough. Now I want to make money, live in peace, and be left alone. I don't have social media, the only news I follow is Slashdot, and I have zero interest in world affairs.
But c'mon. This is not new.
This sounds like a call for Marvel to re-release Avengers Endgame into the theaters again to retake their spot.
Followed by all movie studios realizing that they don't have to copy their movies anymore trying to replicate the formula, they can just re-re-re-release movies and cycle them through theaters again...and again...and again...
If anyone has ever read the dystopian series "Silo" - this is where the end starts. First with nanocontainers, then with the the threat of terrorists using nanocontainers to engineer ways to kill us all, followed by us making a preemptive strike to wipe out everyone except for some of us, who are stored in giant silos, living out generations while the world clears itself for us to start over again.
As with all public voting, the top answer is going to be something like, "Rover McRoveyface."
This story is a great illustration of the dysfunction in corporate leadership.
Managers exist to sustain the status quo. Taking someone who is good at a task and putting them in charge of other people doing that task does not make them a leader. A leader motivates, trains, inspires and mentors their team - you can go to specialized school to learn fundamentals of leadership, just like you can go to a specialized school to learn how to do a given profession.
It is crushingly depressing to see how few leaders end up in management - both in the military and civilian world.
Sounds like we need to hire Argentine Ants to do city planning in the US.
It's a slam DUNK case. I'm sure it will be paid out in free donuts.
I'd be less concerned about home smoking marijuana on an overly expensive private jet, and more worried that he's leasing all those WeWork properties from himself for ridiculous sums so he can pocket WeWork profits to the detriment of the financial sustainability of the company.
This should be called a neck brace, not a helmet.
If it were the US or China, we (and they) would just use all the false positives to send all the extra people to prison to fuel the prison economy.
Two wrights don't make a rong, they make an airplane. Or bicycles.
