It wasn't an issue for me. I simply presented my "green card" and went on my way. Even after I became a citizen employers asked for my US passport. Little did I realize that those requests were actually illegal. Well, they may have been illegal, but I didn't consider them to be unreasonable.

What I DO consider unreasonable is a bank (*cough* BOA) demanding that I verify my citizenship. No other bank has ever asked me to do that. I found that demand to be very problematic.

It used to be good. Strong but very smooth and consistent. These days: zero consistency, bitter from over roasting to even out taste over large batches of beans (burnt), improper cleaning of urns etc....this is all from trying to manage scale. Look at their beans...very very dark.

Now go get some beans from a local roaster. The beans are always a nice toasted brown, not black. Starbucks can't manage thier scale.

I agree with this. Starbucks made some high level management changes several years ago and it has steadily declined since then. In fairness, the pandemic has probably affected its staffing, but I'm not buying that as an excuse for poor training, and poorly run local stores.

I'll stick with Peet's, where I can reliably depend on waiting only a few minutes if I have to wait at all.
Obviously, I've had trouble getting the bitter taste of crap Starbucks service out of my mouth.

They won't turn on, because they're still running. The confusing black screen can sit like that for several hours (maybe even 12+) while the clunky old drive chugs away quietly as the owner pulls their hair out and thinks their machine has died. I would advise them to just let do its thing for a few days, but that of course would be ridiculous. They will in all likelihood have to put in a support call, go through all the scripted troubleshooting procedures with the help desk tech, then have them book an appointment at certified repair shop and be prepared to pay 4 or $500 or to get the thing fixed (and the drive replaced with an SSD). On the bright side, their clunky old HD-bound Mac with feet of clay will then seem like a whole new machine.

How much throttling is there when the laptop is unplugged? How loud are the fans, and how long do they run? How long does it take to export ProRes and how much battery is left afterwards? We "may" soon have answers.
