The Microcode tgz file also contains a license file with the same language

"(v) publish or provide any Software benchmark or comparison test results. "

However, there is also a clause that says if you download the tgz you accept the license automatically. So, the act of downloading to read thatlicense means you have agreed will not publish benchmarks.

And the rest of the world seems to be a little slow on understanding just how much the US population doesn't give two shits about the "international" community.

In fact, the rest of the world has long understood that the US population doesn't know what exists outside it's borders. "Oh, you are Austrian? Koalas are so cute!"

Submission + - SPAM: Google blocks Blender Foundation Videos

lastman71 writes: Since a few days all Blender videos on the official blender video have been blocked worldwide without explanation. After some time youtube told to Blender Foundation to enable ad to unblock the channel.

It looks that the new policy is to enable ad on your video if you want to publish videos.

Trust takes a long time to get, and can be destroyed in an instant. It can be very hard to scrub that tarnish off, especially when dealing with safeguarding people's reputation and IP. I hope one day you can salvage the name, my genuine wishes there... but right now, it's still too soon for many people. Bundling malware is still very fresh in people's mind.

Recently we discovered three vulnerabilities that have meant the unfortunate discovery of one of the many NSA hidden administrative accounts and two of the security bypass accounts for hidden use by the FBI and CIA.

We here at Cisco want to assure our most important customers that we take the discovery of your backdoors very seriously. We are now sending out a patch to the enterprise muppets that includes a new backdoor on port 6969 with the username/password pair admin:nimda

Cisco values our AmericanTLA customers greatly and want to assure you that this unfortunate defect in our backdoor enabling program was only a minor exposure. There were still many hundreds of your usable backdoors undiscovered and at no time was your ability access to private data reduced or compromised.

God Bless America.

Messaging-App Kik's Big Bet On Digital Coin Offering (wsj.com) 25

cdreimer writes: According to a report from The Wall Street Journal (Warning: source may be paywalled, alternative source), messaging app Kik is planning a $125 million coin offering to tap into the highly speculative cyptrocurrency market. Kik made the news last year by getting the JavaScript registry, npm, to give them the "kik" package name, prompting the developer to remove all his packages, including the popular "pad-left" package, and breaking thousands of JavaScript project for a week. From the report: "Messaging-app operator Kik Interactive said Tuesday that it is aiming to raise $125 million through a so-called initial coin offering in September, one of the first established companies to step into the mushrooming but highly speculative market for these digital tokens. In doing so, Kik, which has encountered growth issues, is trying to tap into the surging interest in cryptocurrencies and digital tokens associated with them. It also is experimenting with a potential way for its investors to essentially cash out of the company without actually selling their equity. The market for digital coins has exploded in 2017, with more than 100 firms raising more than $1.7 billion, up from 64 firms raising about $103 million in 2016, according to research firm Smith & Crown. Most of these firms, though, are startups and in many cases don't have a working product. In that, Kik is different. Its messaging app is popular among teens in Canada and the U.S. Kik also allows developers to publish games and services within the platform, a hook meant to keep users on the app for longer."

I've actually gone to the trouble of digging up my old account I locked when Dice got involved to say this; "Thanks Whiplash for doing this so soon after you purchased the sites." I am sure a lot of people will watch developments intently. I wish you every success in efforts to salvage the reputations of both sites. It's needed, it's really needed.

Sony Officially Blames Anonymous For PSN Hack 575

H_Fisher writes "In a letter to Congress, Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony's board of directors, blames hacker group Anonymous for making possible the theft of gamers' personal information. 'What is becoming more and more evident is that Sony has been the victim of a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyber attack designed to steal personal and credit card information for illegal purposes,' Hirai wrote. He also indicated that Sony waited two days before notifying the FBI of the theft."

Eric Schmidt Out, Larry Page In As Google CEO 185

jfruhlinger writes "Google surprised just about everybody at its earnings call by announcing that Eric Schmidt, who had served as company CEO for more than a decade, would be stepping down and that cofounder Larry Page would take over. Schmidt will stay on as chairman and provide 'technology thought leadership,' whatever that is. When Schmidt, an old Sun hand, joined Google in 2001, it was seen as a move to turn the scrappy upstart into a mature company; now on his Twitter feed Schmidt proclaims that his 'adult supervision' is no longer needed."
