I'm not the poster above but I do have thoughts.

I live in sweden and sometimes we have something called snow. I've seen snow cover signs on both sides (and yeah the roads can still be clean so that normal speed is easy to keep safely). I can't read the signs, not sure how the car should be able to.

Then I'm curious about those day with snowstorms where everything is just white and you just drive slow enough and hope for the best almost feeling your way because you can't really see the road.

But sure, I can see the poles next to the road, so could the car and do calculations. I know the sign said 70km/h the day before and the car will probably just double check with a database for a known speed limit if the sign is covered in snow.

Interesting problem indeed.

Submission + - Valve: Half-Life 3 Will Be Linux-Only (buzzleberry.com) 5

hydrofix writes: Half-Life 3 is the long awaited sequel to Half-Life 2 which has been in development for more than five years. Gabe Newell, Valve director, has earlier made his stance on Windows 8 clear, saying that “Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space.” And at the Ubuntu Developer Summit, Valve employee Drew Bliss said that Linux is a more viable platform for gaming than Windows 8. But at LinuxCon Europe, Newell now officially solidified Valve’s stance on Windows 8 by announcing that Half-Life 3 will be exclusive to Linux.

Could have modded but I rather say that this is an interesting point I wasn't aware of.

Baldurs Gate is probably the computer game I've loved the most ever and intended to buy the enhanced edition but requirement to always be online and DLC was something I didn't know and I certainly won't support.

I'll just dig out my old discs instead.

Ask Slashdot: Websites Friendly To eReader Browsers? 96

DJCouchyCouch writes "I have a Kobo Touch eReader that comes with a bare-bones web browser. Since the screen is E-Ink based, the browsing experience is pretty poor due to the low refresh rate of the screen. Scrolling is twitchy and often laggy. Are there sites out there that can reformat a website to be more like book reading? I'm not asking for a perfect, tablet-like experience, just something better than what it does now."
