One of my favorite problems was from my Dynamics class:
Given a VTOL aircraft of weight W that is carrying G gallons of fuel (with weight of X kg/gallon), burning Z gallons per second from two engines that provide Y thrust each, and are angled A from the vertical. Where is the plane after 3 seconds? 7 Seconds?

Google needs to allow you to authorize specific permissions for apps, not their current 'all or nothing' system. This way you could say "Yes, you can have my position because I believe a GPS mapping system needs that, but no you can't have my address book, since a GPS system doesn't need that". Sure it would screw advertisers over, but I don't care about them. Not everything in the world needs to have advertising on it.

Mono.

Again, there is no fee to use .NET. You don't have to use Visual Studio, you don't have to use SQL Server. You don't have to use Windows. Look, no licensing fees at all.

As for "why .NET": because it's a tool that lets us get our job done faster, with less bugs, and higher maintainability. And like any tool, sometimes it's the right tool, and sometimes it isn't.

And finally, the reason the supermarket wants your purchase information is to do analysis of demographics and to better optimize their business. They are not doing the sort of data mining that would allow them to sell you lipitor based on how much beef you eat. You have absolutely no evidence to back up that assertion.

Really? Then how come every month they start offering me coupons for 'feminine hygiene products' around my wife's 'special time'? There are several types of products I buy with some regularity and invariably I get offered coupons at the checkout station a few days beforehand for competitors products. They do track what I buy, they know about when I'm going to buy certain things, and they use this to market other products.
