Some publishers, Adobe for one, specifically prohibit running their product remotely on a VM. It would be nice to see MS use their muscle to get them to back down, wonder how that will play out.

8 GB is generally adequate now, but in 4 or 5 years? I like to future-proof my purchases, and I hate how Apple gimps their base models to force you to upgrade memory and disk at way beyond market prices. But it's clearly working for them.

Yeah, old Mac hardware holds up pretty well. Too bad those old MBPs won't run Big Sur, while a 10 year old Windows machine will run the latest Win10 release.

Yeah, shrinking the trackpad is stupid. Bigger function keys? Who cares? How often do you use the function keys compared to the trackpad? Dumb trade-off.

Smaller frame would be nice, but the current model isn't too bad. On my 2014 Air it's huge, don't know what they were thinking.

If they're determined to release a gimped version of Windows (insert "how could you tell?" joke here) , call it something else. They've already gone down this path, and it's confusing as hell for people when their games and software that "runs on Windows" won't run.

Also, there's no guaranty the new hire will be better than the person you fired. Plus you get the fun and expense of hiring and training them. There are of course legitimate reasons for firing people, but firing someone just to meet an arbitrary metric is stupid.

I had a coworker who came from IBM, and he said they did this. He seemed to be in favor of it, which I found rather appalling.

Sunk-cost fallacy. Paying to maintain property that you don't need makes no sense. Sure, they'll lose money if they sell them. They'll lose more if they continue maintaining them, paying property taxes, etc. You'd hope the suits know an accountant or two that could explain that to them.

A couple months ago I found a mouse living under my motorcycle seat. Scared him off, a month later I'm riding the bike and it dies. Trailered it home, run some diagnostics, and found a wire that had been chewed through. Now I'm wondering if it had that soy insulation.

I really don't need to see myself when I'm on a video chat, Zoom should have an option to remove or shrink your image. Facebook's chat app makes your own image much smaller than the rest, so I don't feel like I'm looking in a mirror all the damn time.

but it seems like making funds available to underserved communities and letting them figure out how to get broadband might be more effective than tossing money at corporations and hoping they do the right thing.

Took a night train once in France, many years ago. It was awesome. Way more pleasant than flying.
