THIS is so true. It's annoying as fuck.
I also frequently turn on subtitles because the music and sound effects are frequently too loud compared to the dialogue. Also, frequently I can't understand the accents, such as strong African American slang, or Irish, or some mid-western US redneck talk where I don't understand shit.

I think it's pretty clear what consciousness is. Consciousness is what it feels like to be a human with the nervous system that we have, and with the sensory inputs, such as sight, hearing, smell and taste. That experience of being such a creature with those traits is what our consciousness is.

I guess they, and other countries with a recent interest in nuclear plants, base their decisions on actual numbers, which shows that nuclear is usually less expensive than solar/wind if:
- you don't take into account renewables subsidies
- you take into account the baseload capabilities of nuclear

I wonder if these numbers take into account the costs of dismantling a nuclear power plant, including handling all the radioactive waste and the long-term storage of it, once it has run its course.
Which I'm told, are pretty high costs.

These local data centers are such a fools errand. As if the Internet didn't exist and it wouldn't be trivial for the Chinese government to have connections or backdoors into that data and siphon whatever they want. Nobody is going to audit those systems or check them in any way for what is happening with that data. So it might as well sit in Beijing.

Fair point. But notice I only said "Stop the German Empire" not "The evil or genocidal German Empire".
If I'm not wrong, US contribution to WW1 was mainly directed against Germany due to German U-Boats attacking merchant vessels. And that US contribution helped in weakening and demoralizing the German Empire, which brought a quicker end to WW1, which was a good thing.

You should put things into proper context. This was during the cold war, where the choice was between bad and worse: fascist dictators or communist dictators. And at least the former protected free trade and private property.
And yes, the communists were as bad or worse than the Nazis. In terms of raw numbers of how many people they killed through starvation and mismanagement, the communists in the Stalin in the Soviet Union, and Mao in China killed many more people than the Nazis did.

And throughout its history, the United States also:
Helped stop the German Empire in WW1
Were instrumental in stopping the genocidal Nazis in WW2
Were instrumental in stopping the genocidal Japanese Empire in WW2
Stopped the spread of communism to South Korea
Were instrumental in stopping ISIS in Syria and Iraq
The US is the reason why strong dictatorships like Russia and China don't do whatever the fuck they want.

So no, the US is not as bad as you insinuate. It is far from perfect. But it is the main reason why liberty and democratic forces are at the strong end of the balance of power on this planet.

True. I was a huge critic of the stupid Iraq invasion by the dumbass Bush administration. And why? Because I was afraid of *exactly* what is going on right now. Russia and China, and their apologists, pointing at the US and saying: oh, look who's talking.

HUGE mistake that, as feared, is now being exploited by the enemies of the West to the fullest.

But of course, US invading Iraq, a country ruled by a brutal dictator who had already invaded his neighbors on occasion, is not the same as Russia invading a democratic Ukraine.
Let's not forget that:
- Russia also supplied AA weapons to separatists who shot down a civilian passenger liner
- Russia is leveling entire cities and purposefully attacking hospitals and terror bombing civilian areas
- Russia is trying to systematically destroy crucial energy and water infrastructure to demoralize the civilian population
- Russia is abducting Ukrainian children to indoctrinate them with Russian propaganda.

The sheer number of war crimes perpetrated by Russia is staggering. The US invasion of Iraq was a precise, surgical, strike in comparison. A real "special military operation", in contrast to the genocidal war that Russia is waging, with official Russian channels denying Ukraine's history and right to exist.

Nah, it's not just that.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine was a wake-up call for the West. It was at least helpful as a reminder that dictatorships will sometimes do stupid, imperialist shit like invading other countries and destabilizing the world. So maybe we shouldn't be investing in them and building them up economically.

Yeah, and before anyone comes crying "BUT WHAT ABOUT IRAQ!!?" just your quick reminder that even though the WMD's were bullshit, Iraq was a menace ruled by another dictator who had already invaded another country prior, and who had already been involved in two wars causing plenty of global instability at that point.

Now everyone is scared shitless about when China will make it's move on Taiwan.
China is an authoritarian state ruled by a dictator and a small cabal of elites. They are not interested in liberty or democracy, and will invade a democratic nation like Taiwan if they think they can get away with it. It's about time the West woke up to this fact.
