The only model that uses iOS is the iPod Touch which is an iPhone without the phone functions. The OS that runs the other iPod models is an embedded OS that despite may have some design concepts in common with iOS, it is not iOS.

Windows 8 will likely be too unless they do a complete rewrite to accomodate ARM. Personally I think Windows 8 is a perfect opertunity to build on the rumored Midori/Singularity concept. Considering its all managed code portability and compatibility between the architectures would be alot easier.

Its not really jailbreaking, to 'root' your phone only really gives you the ability to install custom ROM's (version of the OS) on the phone. Jailbreaking was different and nessecary if you wanted applications that are not on the iTunes store. Rooting your phone is only nessecary if you want the latest version of Android and Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc cant be bothered upgrading.

Of course you can just get a Nexus phone if you really care about having the latest Android.

I was performing an update for my Desire Z (unbranded G2) and it managed to completly corrupt itself, now its sitting with the warrenty guys where they have been twiddling their thumbs for three weeks saying they haven't been able to fix it.
