Comment Re:In the SIMULATOR? (Score 2) 270

What really twists my noodle is the knowledge that a new pilot, after completing sim training, fly's a real airliner for the first time on a normal commercial flight with a full load of passengers.

Yeah, but that *new* pilot has several hundred hours of flight time (ie: Commercial pilots license by FAA, PLUS an instrument rating, certifying he's able to fly safely in the soup) in other aircraft before an airline will even talk to him.. He trains for MANY in that full-motion simulator for the type aircraft he will fly for the airline before he ever sits in the right seat (First Officer)....

Damn.. the ONE good player for Windows that 1) plays Shoutcast streams withOUT any drama, and 2) doesnt try to force you to catagorize your music into that artist-album bullshit.. My several thousand mp3s are simply catagorized in folders by genre, and every other player seems to want to force me to throw that catagorization away and play *their* way.. Thats my main gripe with most all of the Linux music players, EXCEPT for XMMS/Audacious, which I exclusively use on Linux.. Winamp is more than happy to let me leave my music library the way *I* want it.. Gonna miss Winamp, wish AOL would Opensource it so the community could continue with it.. Oh well, a nice dream but *that* will never happen.. it *is* AOL we're talking about, after all.. Gonna download one last copy of Winamp and keep using it till the wheels fall off..

We are to the point where I wonder why everybody keeps falling back on things like "constitutional right to quit".. Its now to the point where this government has spit on the constitution for so many years, and are now to the point of actively setting it on fire, bringing on its total and complete disregard by this government.. I love this country, served in its military in the 70s, but am embarrased and sickened by its government.. We are WELL beyond "the ballot box" being able to fix the MANY problems, and the government is well on its way to be SURE that no corrections in it can be made by "the ammo box"... May God Bless and keep this wonderful country, as we certainly don't seem to be able to...

THIS!!
The company I worked for a few years ago had a compute cluster for engineering/modeling with over 100 nodes. They were originally running RHEL3, which of course was coming up to EOL in a few months. The suits wanted to buy licenses for RHEL to upgrade the nodes, the IT staff wanted to use CentOS. Research was done on pricing for over 100 RHEL licenses, and after a while, the suits decided to go with IT's choice of CentOS for the compute nodes and use *one* RHEL install for the master node. I wasn't involved with the pricing discussions, but I heard that RH sales were stuck on nearly full pricing for all 100+ licenses.

Just for shits and grins, I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Blue preview ISO and slapped it into a VM on my system (Debian Linux, thank you very much..).. The first damn thing it INSISTED on doing was either having me login to whatever BS backend they have for it, OR create a backend account.. I recall on the Win 8 preview there was a link there to merely create a local system account, which was what I wanted to do, but it seems like the fuckwads at MS took even THAT away.. Don't know what I did, but eventually I managed to find a screen to create a local account.. Once I got into Win8.1, I do see they've done some improvements over the steaming turd that is Windows 8.. The only reason I took the time to check Win8.1 out is because, since i'm the defacto neighborhood support "slave", I guarantee I'll be asked to help figure MS's latest pile of shit out.. Personally, its Linux for me.... (yes, I AM a Linux fanboy.. thank you very much...)
