Comment In Portugal diesel cars remove the particle filter (Score 2) 48

Living in Lisbon and driving around in an EV, I can feel very often the intense smell of diesel exhaust and some times it's too late to close the windows because you're likely to keep that nasty smell inside your car. And if you are stuck on traffic it's even worse because you are not likely to be able to avoid it in the next few minutes... The problem is most cars in Portugal are diesel and whenever they have a problem in particle filter it's too expensive to replace so a very large share of owners opt to remove the filter and inspection centers don't have equipment to detect this, and there is no policing operations to monitor and control this problem. Some times I get a headache for the rest of the day just for being forced to smell that stuff for a while, it really enrages me how egocentric people can be...

Comment Re:Just Standardize the Battery. (Score 3, Insightful) 44

It's a bit dumb that all phones want to be super thin but everybody wants a super camera no mater whats the thickness, so you end up with phones that have a bump on one of the corners, unbalancing when laying on a table and it's a missed opportunity to have a larger battery, better heat dissipation and keep a flush back with camera glass.

Comment What about standard Li-Ion battery for all gadgets (Score 1) 271

It would be very useful if we had a standard for Li-Ion batteries to be used on all types of devices (including the ones that typically use AAA or AA batteries like TV remotes). We are forced to buy inferior Ni-Mh batteries to fit on same space as non rechargeable batteries (AAA and AA sized) but those don't have the exact same voltage and can't hold charge for long periods with very low power usage, so forcing all device manufacturers to have a Li-ion battery capable device (based on multiples of 3.7V) would make sense. It would be even nicer to also have 2 or 3 standardised sizes for removable smartphone batteries.

Comment How can I export my selected allowed content list? (Score 1) 105

I have manually selected many videos and some channels that I think can benefit learning but I would like to share this list with other parents and there is no option to do so because kid's cant share anything otherwise it could violate some law... so I think those LAW makers must be dumbing down youtube kids...

Comment Re:How to succeed (Score 1) 121

Yeap, making an expensive phone that revolves around the camera and don't include a removable battery or memory card slot is too bad aleready, then also quit the unlimited original quality google photos storage... new phones can shoot 8k video so why go for pixel 4 that is also limited to same 1080p on google cloud storage?

Comment Re:Where's OLED, Plasma, eInk and Projector? (Score 1) 424

Try to repeat the test with a Galaxy Tab 7.7 (AMOLED screen resulting in best picture quality in tablets at the moment) and see the real difference it makes in power usage. I would love to see a fast change in content designers to start using black as background for all digital content, at least give us an option to do so without add-ons that may break all the color interaction...

Comment Where's OLED, Plasma, eInk and Projector? (Score 1) 424

Just 2 obsolete technologies being tested? OLED is the future in Picture quality and energy saving, so where is this technology represented there? there are 15" OLED LG's TV's and there will be 55" from Samsung and LG later this year. Plasma also have best picture quality for big TV's at the moment. I'm sure Plasma, OLED and CRT (all emissive technologies with better Picture quality) can save a big part of energy when showing large dark screen areas. I'm tired of white backgrounds for everything in computers trying to replicate the paper. But unlike paper, computer monitors emit light and we keep hours staring at them :(
