Yeah right, like I'm going to wait for Obama to send it through the US post. YAWN. Wake me up when he's using FedEx Priority. At least I can get delivery confirmation on my Backberry.

Until the cameras have intelligent aperture, unlimited storage and battery life, AND use FedEx Priority, I'm not interested

and you've got armed police ready and willing to shoot you, too. It must be awful living in the US, with that constant threat over you all the time.

Sadly, this is true and one of the main reasons I'm afraid to move back to the US. The police are horribly corrupt. Cops can beat you, shoot you, steal your things, whatever. There is absolutely no recourse either, and the worst that can happen to a cop is for him/her to get paid leave.

I think people will settle for "1990s quality", because for most the resolution of the video stream isn't the most important metric. Heck, look up your favorite TV show/film on The Pirate Bay and see which one has the most seeds. I can guarantee you Google will PRINT money with this thing, because having access to interesting content is more valuable than high resolution.

Seriously, WHAT is your problem? For every Slashdot article, there's always some nitpicking asshat who makes a comment like this. NOTHING will make you happy. When Apple released a Macbook Pro : "Until Apple decides to offer a DA-15 game port, I'm not interested". Google introduces gmail: "Until Google decides to offer regular expressions in the text box, I'm not interested"

Give me a break, the whole point of the article has nothing to do with 1080p and 5.1 surround. It's about major players changing the status quo of the entire tv/movie industry.

Sheesh. Talk about missing the forest for the trees.

And this is the most important part. Of course you want to work with someone who is doing good work, but you also want to work somewhere you like. IMHO the best way to do this is to talk with your potential advisor before you fill out any paperwork.

Be sure to take his current students out for a drink to get a feel for how they like working for him or her too.

That is insightful, but is this really anything new? Cops can stop you any time they want NOW. They don't even have to lie about what the radar gun says.

In fact, they can come right up to you for any reason, handcuff you, stomp you in the face, and let you go.

And of course, there is no accountability for such a thing

You're absolutely right. I'm to the point now where I think it would be SAFER for you to try to run over the cop and get away than to face arrest.

The scary thing is, the cops can do absolutely anything they want to you with zero accountability. Once in jail you can be beaten to death ("he was resisting"), the cops can keep you locked up forever ("we don't feel like releasing you yet")... not to mention being raped and beaten by your fellow inmates. And no, you won't be getting medical attention.

I say take your chances.

Second that, moreso because the supporting toolset is so rich. Of course you have your basic text editor (yay vim), compiler, profiler, and debugger. Bash, sed, awk, and grep will let you efficiently edit/transform/search multiple text files. For anything else you could just write a quick perl script. Writing a network app? You have tcpdump. Image analysis and manipulation? Imagemagick. The list goes on and on.

I'm really baffled how anyone even writes a program on Windows in the first place

Actually, there is something correct about that assertion, because the conservative "red" states use more social services, all while having have higher rates of rape, murder, etc.
