There's browser add-ons which visit sites based on personas, though possibly the use of the add-on can be identified to discount those visits. And there's many loyalty card numbers publicly available, usually for stores which give a discount then and there.
"Seems" is the key word. There's no generally reported tendency for IT workers to commit suicide, certainly nothing above the average and there's plenty of occupations where the rate is higher. It's just that you've noticed it more and used that as a starting point.
OK, just read the article (reading the article and replying to my own post, very bad), and it seems that your face is being compared to the photograph which was used for your passport or visa application. Which seems a legitimate way to do it.
When I've used facial recognition at airports it's been comparing my face to the photo in the passport, in the same way that handing it to someone in a booth would do.
Is the story that there's a secret database somewhere that everyone is on and that's being used?
