Comment Open Source the Tab Code (Score 4, Interesting) 194

It started as a GreaseMonkey script, why can't that particular functionality be open sourced? The few times a month I'm forced to go on Facebook I make sure my Social Fixer is up to date, especially since I want to be signed out of chat automatically. Having all the games and apps on a separate tab is nice too. - HEX

Comment Nova - How Smart Can We Get (Score 1) 195

Just watched this which includes the latest findings on Einstein's brain, and was struck by how bad NOVA has become. It used to be a fairly hard science show but this featured adolescent humor and cheesy cut scenes, such as the presenter and a scientist using binoculars to look at Princeton where the majority of his brain is stored. I can only hope this is not the norm for the current NOVA programming, as I was extremely disappointed. - HEX

In order to get past the GamePad requirement if you don't have one:
install HeadSoft VJoy
open the Tray Icon
Enable vjoy checkbox top left
set Button #2 to a key on the keyboard (I set buttons 1 to 4 as numeric keys 1 to 4)
open Steam in Big Picture mode
navigate to library
hover over game with mouse
hit Button #2 to open game (Button A)
hover over play icon with mouse
hit Button #2 to open game (Button A)

Comment Pay the Writer (Score 1) 116

So how will this revolution make sure that the writer gets paid? As Harlan Elison says, Pay the Writer! Don't get me wrong, I love writing and am not looking for top dollar for my own small efforts, but all I see is sites wanting free writing. I do it myself, but at least I don't have ad dollars coming in off the backs of the few people who contribute to my site.

Comment Re:would have been awesome had this happened -- (Score 1) 56

You both have a point for the start of it and the elections were one of the first to use it heavily, but now it's ubiquitous, like a utility. Twitter names and hashtags are the perfect shortening mnemonic. So it may not be Twitter in the future, but it will remain within that format especially since the entertainment industry now uses it everywhere.

Comment Re:would have been awesome had this happened -- (Score 4, Insightful) 56

Twitter has reached ubiquity, especially in the entertainment industry. TV Shows now include Twitter names and hashtags quite regularly as watermark bugs as well as the longer Facebook link during the credits. It's quite telling they put them up as bugs during the actual show with the network's logo bug, and even introduce people with a graphic with their name and Twitter ID, as well as special hashtags during the show. Twitter has beaten Facebook where it counts, in the minds of those who provide entertainment to the rest of us. - HEX

Comment Swedish SNUS (Score 1) 314

I quit using Swedish SNUS which broke the oral fixation/habit of puffing on a smoke while providing the nicotine my body craved. I tapered off using Swedish SNUS within six months, and while I still have cravings occasionally I haven't started smoking again. Please note I didn't use the American versions of SNUS, I ordered real "Swedish" brands that are imported. - HEX
