Bullshit. Those same cities could not exist without bringing food, water, and energy in from outside of their geographical boundaries. Show me a city that is self-sufficient within its own footprint. And at least in the US, I have yet to see ANY city that isn't a miserable shithole full of bored apes.

There's nothing unusual about a blue-collar usage case. There's thousands of different usage cases like that which evidently don't register to most people's awareness, and yet their modern lives and comforts would not be possible without them.

I do heavy equipment repair for a living nowadays. I can only afford one vehicle at a time, it has to do everything. My daily driver is also a service work truck that can take 4,000 lbs in the bed and provide up to 55 kW of aux power in the form of 220 3-phase, 110/220 single, compressed air, 300 amps of welding power, and hydraulic power all at the flip of a switch, provided by the engine.

I can go 3 weeks on a fill-up that takes 5 minutes. My total investment is less than 30k. EV's are a LONG ways from making any sense for real-world work.

That is why you don't see much enthusiasm for EV's outside of major metro areas. Conversely, I don't see much pollution out in the middle of nowhere, it seems to be an urban problem. And I do wish the city dwellers would keep their problems to themselves.
