The enshittification has been ongoing since about 1970 for those of us who have been paying attention. And, always for the same reasons, but via different mechanisms and market segments.
Bullshit. Those same cities could not exist without bringing food, water, and energy in from outside of their geographical boundaries. Show me a city that is self-sufficient within its own footprint. And at least in the US, I have yet to see ANY city that isn't a miserable shithole full of bored apes.
There's nothing unusual about a blue-collar usage case. There's thousands of different usage cases like that which evidently don't register to most people's awareness, and yet their modern lives and comforts would not be possible without them.
I do heavy equipment repair for a living nowadays. I can only afford one vehicle at a time, it has to do everything. My daily driver is also a service work truck that can take 4,000 lbs in the bed and provide up to 55 kW of aux power in the form of 220 3-phase, 110/220 single, compressed air, 300 amps of welding power, and hydraulic power all at the flip of a switch, provided by the engine.
I can go 3 weeks on a fill-up that takes 5 minutes. My total investment is less than 30k. EV's are a LONG ways from making any sense for real-world work.
That is why you don't see much enthusiasm for EV's outside of major metro areas. Conversely, I don't see much pollution out in the middle of nowhere, it seems to be an urban problem. And I do wish the city dwellers would keep their problems to themselves.
We need real antitrust enforcement in this country, and screw the "light-handed regulation". We've been doing that since Reagan, and look at this place now.
Good thing the government isn't a business.
Because not everything can be done for a profit, nor should it.
Easily fixed if you lift the tax cap. Right now, only the first $160k of income is taxed for SS purposes.
What was surprising to me was the number of gullible fucks that continue to support Trump to this day. You people are truly something else.
If Israel would go back to their 1966 borders....
How about the fact that most government entities in the US are forbidden from profit and must provide service "at cost"? Which cost can be shockingly low. This is exactly how other countries manage to provide great service at a fraction of what US citizens pay.
Actually it reminds me of "The Andromeda Strain".... who knew that sci-fi would one day be reality?
Yeah, but then they might become "liberals" (as if the conservatives even know what the word means in historical context say a few hundred years ago)
Interestingly, I started lurking and posting in 1996. Didn't bother with a login till later, the idea of it irritated me.
The DNC moved heaven and earth twice to make sure Sanders didn't get the nomination. It was pretty well documented and commented upon over at Naked Capitalism.
Perhaps for electrical insulation, component packaging, and lightweight parts as everyone turns to EV's?
