to lay down a public fiber optic network across America, bypassing the wireless push, bypassing the corporations.
a few years ago in fact an effort was in place to use Broadband Stimulus funds to built a new uber network to modernize the Internet and data delivery system.
it was put on the back burner when the Broadband Stimulus money was pulled. but if we built this thing, we could have a public network that was shared by everyone, that everyone owned, and it would be literally 1000x faster than current networks.
also we should have uncapped unmetered free fiber optic connections to each resident and place of business.
uncapped, unmetered fiber that operates at peak speed all the time with no artificial limits? that might be exabits in each direction to every home, limited only by the speed of our equipment/routers/PCs/etc.
rules for the new network would include: enough capacity to let everyone through w/o charging them fees to get through "with priority". no censorship, no blocking of people for "perceivable misuse" and no limits on data transmission or usage otherwise (it will be ok to: host servers at homes; broadcasting video from home; news channels from home; new free IP TV and IP-voice networks that run w/o need to pay (p2p, direct connections based on IP addresses instead of central services owned by corporations), etc).
