LOL, I'm typing this with my MacBook, which is also sitting next to a Thinkpad. I'm also toying with the idea of cloning the Thinkpad into a VM and running VMWare fusion. It'll run faster than the T41 does, and would have more RAM & disk space... However, I doubt that the nanny-ware and other crap IT forces on us would work. That, and customers would not appreciate a camera in their fab. As to the whole LCD in the apple bit, that is a bit much. Pure geek, to be sure, but utterly pointless.

Submission + - New super efficient LEDs developed (compoundsemi.com)

WileyC writes: A prototype of a new LED from LED Lighting Fixtures, Inc. just kicked the butt of current LEDs in energy efficiency (not to mention making fluorescents and incandescents look completely outdated). From the press release:

LLF's latest prototype fixture operates using less than 15 percent of the power of standard 65-watt incandescent bulbs and 50 percent of the power of compact fluorescent bulbs, while delivering equivalent warm white light as measured in lumens. The company's LED fixtures produce virtually no heat and can provide 50,000 hours of light, as compared to the average 2,000 hours provided by conventional 65-watt bulbs.
According to the article this makes them 35% more efficient than current LEDs on the market.

Submission + - Is Leopard the New Vista? (pcmag.com)

CorinneI writes: "We all have such a good time ragging on Vista that it's practically become second nature. We never, ever thought that we'd have the same reaction to a Mac OS — especially Leopard. By and large, though, PC Mag analyst Oliver Rist sees more similarities between Leopard and Microsoft's much-maligned OS than differences. In fact, these five similarities are enough to drive him right up the wall."

Submission + - OS X Leopard now can natively load Windows Files.

Steven Edwards writes: "PE Files were rejected on Tiger but now can be loaded natively on Leopard, which is interesting to me because I don't think that this is just a hold over from EFI support because the behavior is new. I think it may be a sign of future addition of a Win32 subsystem to OS X. Check the following URLs for the detailed technical information.

I think this behavior may be a sign of a future addition of a Win32 subsystem to OS X. I think the powers that be at apple have decided that they are missing the pie that Parallels, VMware and CodeWeavers are getting. If you combine the value of all three products, I expect its adding up to a good chunk of change they view as "lost" every month. Having a system like Wine that runs in a clunky Classic like mode would mean better user tie-in than having to reboot with BootCamp."
