Now I know who to blame.

I spent many many hours playing empire when I should have been doing something usefull. For the sake of my current productivity, please reassure me that there is no linux version.

2 possible answers.

1) Incompetence
2) They have someone in mind that they want to give the job, but who is not qualified, so they make sure that no one else is qualified either. Once they fail to find any qualified applicants they can ignore any requirements and give it to whoever they want.

Every population is bound to have some idiots, the larger the population the more idiots there will be. But since idiots attract more attention then average the whole population gets tainted. To make it worse many idiots are so sure of their genius that they actively try to promote their idiocy.

Remember half the population is below average.

Unfortunately in any forum/social networking site/online community there will always be people who will try to game the system for their own benefit. That benefit may be financial or it may be social (ie top ranking). The trick is building a system that rewards participation and discourages the gaming. I don't think anyone has managed to get it right yet.

Perl is a language that can be written at many levels. If you use every shortcut and every default action then you are going to get a program that only an expert can decipher. However by avoiding all the little tricks you can create code that is clear and understandable even by someone who has limited experience with perl.

Until you start with regular expressions, then all bets are off.

When these kinds of services (meaning flicker et al) open up their api to public use there are always some who cant figure out why.

Well folks, this is the reason why.

I betting when the executives at flicker sat down to decide if they were going top open up the api, they had no idea that someone would use it to create a map of the sky.

The subhead states "Bacteria treated with compound lose their resistance"

My question is what is treated?

If treated means "immersed in a strong bath of the compound for 2 weeks" then the compound may not be very practical. If treated means "a small dose included with the antibiotic" then the treatment is very practical.

The fact that the article was not very specific suggests its not the latter.
