My problem isn't so much the learning curve of replacing one with the other - it's the competency of whoever ends up doing it. Whatever the business case, surely the majority of admins are going to be Windows-only: how is that going to succeed? If you have a business case and a good Unix admin, terrific. But I'm guessing that Microsoft isn't so worried about Unix servers taking over the enterprise because they have to get past the Microsoft-trained admin. He's going to raise hell with the CTO if he's forced to migrate servers, or worse, the job gets outsourced. SambaN+1 had better be awesomely user-friendly for it to be even seriously considered.

I'd actually argue that words haven't lost their power at all, its just that the taboo moves on to different words. For example, what does the word terrorist mean to you? In different eras, we are acculturated to the power of different words depending on those words usefulness to those who wish to wield power. Paying attention to the use of words is an enlightening experience.

His problem really is "we can't compete with free, so let's claim free can't compete with us" and uses a classic fallacy of deductive logic to make his case. Other than that it's a classic private enterprise whine that the government ain't fair. It's also doubtful what open standards he can point to as incompetent given the OOXML mess. Then he throws in a bunch of stats to prove he's winning. Drone drone drone.

Make good food more affordable then, make time to prepare good food a priority. Don't blame the working poor for taking the easy way out in their 2-job-a-day lives to feed their families. I hear this particular justification from better off people all the time who have no idea how most people are getting by today. Next time, look at the checkout chick and ask yourself how they're feeding themselves on minimum wage. Then get off your sanctimonious high horse.
