The War on Drugs is a massively successful enterprise if your definition of success is the ability to extract billions of USD worth of funding from taxpayers, with a disproportionate amount of said funding going to the overt militarization of police forces in the USA at the expense of civil liberties and human rights. However, if your indicators of success are tied to social, medical, or economic improvement for the citizens of the United States of America, the entire affair is indeed a massive failure.

For reference, this is coming from someone who consumes nothing more than nicotine (vaping these days, gave up cigarettes after 20 years) and whiskey, and once wore an actual military uniform for a living.

I have little or no trouble with jet lag when I fly west. I have a lot of trouble when I fly east unless the flight is far enough that the jump is a complete reset. I'm in Colorado and flying to the eastern time zone is the pits. Flying to Europe on the other hand is not so bad.

That flying west isn't so bad is no surprise. I'm a night person so staying up a couple of hours and then sleeping in a couple of hours is my prefered schedule. Getting up early even for the shift to daylight savings time usually kicks my butt for a week or more and I don't even get a change of scenery.

I've been to college myself, and I bet MIT would be around 1:1 too. The thing is, a lot of the teaching isn't done by faculty, it's done by graduate students. This includes recitations, answering questions one-on-one, and grading papers.

And there are a ton of administrators too, and they aren't sitting around on their hands doing nothing. They're doing stuff like administering grants and supervising the IT and physical plant people necessary to keep the faculty's lab research running.

The biggest time waster for MIT faculty, as far as I can tell, are other faculty.
