Comment Expect to see more frenzied hyperbole (Score 1) 47

If folks can give cash at the drop of the hat, then I would expect even more attempts to keep people in a state of frenzied outrage. 2 minutes of hate ever quarter hour to guarantee maximum contributions.

It'll be great for the pols raking in the bucks right up to the point that the hate and rage they generate gets so out of control that everything gets burned to the ground.

But I suppose they'll still have their private compounds and armed guards and such, so they'll be fine.

Remember, too - the aim of the powerful isn't usually money; money is an end. The true aim is power. Money is a representation of that power, one of several manifestations that all lead to similar places.

So, it doesn't matter if no one can buy products if those with the power are able to maintain their standard of living. What the rest do is of little concern as long as that status quo is maintained.

On the other hand, it's hard for anyone to be an engineer at Tesla or go to medical school when the masses are setting fire to everything in sight and shooting anyone who even looks to be either rich or educated because the oligarchs have impoverished just about everyone, and no one has anything even resembling a useful function or purpose at all in life.

One of the arguments that phones are listening is that sometimes, people will have a conversation about something, and suddenly, without making any social media posts or sending messages or emails about the topic, ads will show up for that thing.

For example, I was discussing the fact that I hadn't had a steak dinner in some time not too long ago. Interestingly, ads for a local steak house showed up.

How did they know? Well, some folks think the phones are listening. This is 1984 scary. But the other possibility is that the algorithms have gotten to the point where they don't need to listen. This is Sea of Glass scary. Not sure which is worse.
