It had nothing to do with DRM. Blizzards network broke under the strain. That's why smart people wait a few days before buying a game that popular.

Actually, smart people don't buy products that require the publishers network to be up in order to play a singleplayer game. Having to wait a few days because of network load is a bit of a slap in the face when we're all subjected to the constant pre-order culture where playing on release day is the most important thing.. Paying for that just sends a message that its okay for publishers to pull that shit. Although, I guess if nobody bought it, they'd just blame piracy anyway...

They are cutting Corporation Tax, employer contributions to National Insurance and (if I read correctly) new start ups wont have to pay NI on the first ten employees they hire. So rather than provide a boost for that one industry, those breaks are helping out all industries, including the games industry. Makes sense to me.

The problem with episodic gaming is that each of those four parts will not be 25% of the price of the whole and you will more than likely end up paying more overall for the whole thing than you would have if it wasnt split into chunks.. Whenever there is an opportunity to increase price via obfuscation, you can be sure it will be taken. As has already happened with DLC.

I find it quite interesting that we in the UK have always received news and opinion from the EU in a very negative light, as if Europe was about to destroy all that the UK stood for and yet as time goes on, it looks more and more as if the EU is the only thing that can save us from our own government.. If we ever get a referendum on this subject, Im definitely going pro Europe.

I can agree with this too, I pay for 20Mb and get very close to that speed.. However I do feel the need to use SSL encryption on my newsgroup downloads tunnelled via VPN to amsterdam. I'm pre-empting the whole DPI testing that they're rolling out. They may be terrible when it comes to privacy, but I cant fault their bandwidth speeds. Having said that tho, after downloading around 5G+ they do throttle me back to 5Mb for awhile, but I can live with that.

No, because none of those are beneficial to humanity today.

Oh, I dont know, one of them might not be such a bad idea... =P

Sending a Shuttle-sized craft to Alpha Centauri in a matter of years would require roughly the current total energy consumption of humanity.

Just a thought (and Im not a physicist, so have no idea about the numbers involved), but could we not send something much smaller and lighter, say just a few kilos and the size of a laptop, something that could take pictures and be smart enough to search for planets in the Alpha Centauri system and navigate to them.. Even if it takes 20 or 30 years to get there, the data it sent back would surely be invaluable and would take a lot less time than waiting for some kind of wormhole technology to be invented. Does anyone know if this is possible with our current tech or in the near future?

think that MS will have a hard time maintaining market share in the next 30 years on the desktop market. Software is just becoming too much of a commodity. Easily replaced by free alternatives. Obviously the change isn't going to happen overnight, but over the long term, there's no way that MS can keep on charging for upgrades to software when software with the same features can be had for free.

They dont need to compete, they just need to change the document format every so often.. I use OOo at home for the few general office tasks I need, but if I have to send anything out to a third party (submitting a CV/Resume, for example), it has to be in good old fashioned .doc format.. I've yet to meet any business that accepts documents in .ODF format and until that changes Microsoft will always be in front.

As someone who was sent to a Catholic school by well meaning, but misguided parents, I'd have to say yes, I definitely take issue with it.. My particular school ranked just below the cantina on Tatooine for scum and villainy. Maybe its just my experience, but I've found that the more pure something claims to be, the reverse in nearly always the case.

Besides, I think that schools should only teach facts, not beliefs.. Beliefs are for parents to impose on their children, not the state. If more schools just stuck to the facts and let children think for themselves, maybe there would be less reason for home schooling..
