Seems odd skimming the patent to apply this to offline video caching. It seems fairly specific to a method of automating the process of ordering, duplicating and shipping CD media. There is some ambiguous text in there about "digital media". But it also has claims such as:

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said first module is configured to send at least one signal to at least one printing device to create mailing address labels for each of said requests.

Which, I'm sure netflix is not doing. Seems like an attempt to broadly use a patent that's not really related to the actual process being used.

I don't think anyone would argue that it costs nothing to do this. Nor would they argue that it's easy. The argument would simply be whether or not it's cost effective. Can it be done for less than the costs of launching a fully developed habitat from the ground.

That's the job of the company providing the work. If they can make it work, more power to them. If they can't, failed business model. If they can't and it gets funded through tax dollars as a huge boondoggle, then it becomes a problem for the masses.

Prove that it can't be done cost effectively. Not random "Oh sure!! That'll work great!!! No costs at all!"

To be honest, there are some ads creeping up over there. Was watching a show on the history channel app via apple TV the other day. Showtime add about every three minutes. Same one every time. Was annoying as hell.

More of a history channel app issue than an Apple TV issue. But it's still there.

Does someone really need to explain to you the underlying concept of using "Apple TV" features rather than the built-in "Samsung TV" features?

Just means still get a smart TV but use the smarts from some other device or get a dumb TV and do the same.

Why not? I've been to plenty of places in France. Good and bad. That was just one instance of grabbing something quick while on the road.

For the same reasons anyone travels. For the experience. I was there initially for work. But took an extra week and a half for personal travel. Overall it was a great trip. Knowing the language isn't always a necessity. I've been to around 10 countries. It's easy enough to get around knowing a few words.

Everyone will look at this from a "losing jobs" aspect. There's nothing wrong with that view point and it's perfectly valid. However, I will put forth this alternate view. Kiosks in McDonald's while I was in France were a great thing for me. Not speaking French it meant I was able to order without the inconvenience of the language barrier.

In this case, they are actively trying to get rid of employees. And that side is a shame. But I wouldn't mind seeing more kiosk style ordering stations in fast food places. Along with the option to talk to a person.

Incorrect. You're millage may vary depending on your situation. But there is always value in history and the knowledge gained through that time.

One of the important reasons I'm valued in my field is directly related to my knowledge of how we got to where we are. Why we do some things the way we do. And no, it's not just to do things the same way we've always done them.

I actually go outside to the edge of my property to gauge the impact of my sound system on the surrounding neighborhood. And I live out in the country. There are plenty of us that have the means and capability to not go to the theaters.

This is just another reason for me to not go. Yes, they may draw one crowd. They'll exclude another. As long as they make money in the long run, who gives a shit? That's what business is all about.

And I'm sure we can agree that this is an absolutely horrible use case.
