Now, do you REALLY want us to spend a serious fraction of our time and money preparing and making available the raw data..

Nope. We expect you folks to spend some time thinking up a way so that you don't spend any time at all on "preparing" the supposedly "raw" data _and_ still make it available to the desirous public. Like you know putting up a file on a website with some footnotes. I hear universities have some websites.

Ah, ok then its just listing out servers. I'd not seen anything like it before, so thought it might have something to do with the outage today especially given the update date.

Noticed it earlier today. The Twitter-verse of course was immediately complaining about it. As usual I checked the ping, whois, traceroute stuff and it's interesting to say the least:

GULLI.com seems to be somewhere in Germany as per its geo ip.

The stuff above is still what I get back from whois.internic.net.

Wow, just checked for whois google.com and it's coming back worse:

India with corruption so deep-set and intractable that even buying a TV usually involves multiple pay-offs?

This used to be true in the 80s when there were massive import duties. But it's not true any longer atleast for tv sets (I just bought one here).

There still seems to be a lot of corruption, especially in real estate, where money under the table (in order to avoid tax) is usually included in price calculations and usually benefits buyer and seller and is to the detriment of only the govt purse. I'm not relishing the prospect of purchasing a house here and am wondering if i can actually stand up to the pressure and how much it will cost me.

The H1B situation is mostly orthogonal to the silicon valley startup situation. Almost no startup will take the time or the effort to put people through the immigration process. So H1B's mostly only work for well established and safe companies at-least till they get a Green card (which nowadays takes more than a decade for Indians). They are competition only for Americans also wanting to work in well established and safe companies.
