What would be more interesting than this article would be a survey on Slashdot users who come to Slashdot merely to be a part of the fanboi flamewars you so vehemently despise. At that point we would probably have a solid answer for why Slashdot, historically, decides to post news that we all decidedly agree is not "news for nerds" -- revenue.

This "news" is relevant to my interests. Historians for ages to come will study this biography and relate the deeply profound lessons learned inside to our great-grandchildren.

No, you don't. Finding nothing in specific conditions is different than finding nothing in your backyard. I doubt you can collide subatomic particles in a controlled environment in your backyard.

It's all well and good that your high-profile execs just want that 'social publicity' and let their admins run it for them. Until their admins accept these spam-bot contacts and then wind up getting socially engineered into released important/sensitive/confidential information, like passwords.

Then what happens is you have Sony, you have Citi, and you have numerous other smaller gaffes that I don' t really need to enumerate here.

You want publicity, fine... but make it a one way road. Don't even give them the chance of spamming you. Some spam is LETHAL in the wrong hands.

Having worked in a cop station before I can say that they were mostly good people there... and then there were the couple of serious assholes who ruined it for everyone else. We need better personality tests for police academy graduates or something.

Really, with the crime lord statement? They aren't forcing you to play with them. They aren't coming into your dev studio and warning you about "dangers" in the marketplace and if you'd only be willing to pay them for "protection"... They have every right to shoot themselves in the foot by pissing of developers, as they are apparently doing here. Let 'em.

Some people already 'get it', sure, so it's a waste of their time... But surprisingly few. I happen to work in a large corporation and I can promise you that Hem is everywhere. And sadly, this 3rd-grade-level story is about as complex as they are capable of understanding without getting all glassy-eyed...
