Submission + - Gamepolitics play racism for game Resident Evil 5

An anonymous reader writes: This isn't really Censorship, however, gamepolitics have decidedly to report a very small and select slew of blog sites that mainly are for people of "color" topics. Resident Evil 5 , a upcoming game for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, has been making a little bit of blogging noise due to its particular setting in Africa, as its revealed a man of thats obviously white, takes out a horde of "black zombies" as during the trailer. The ironic part of all this is that RE5 is made by a Japanese company, a third party in all of this. Do I smell a conspiracy and hidden agendas between the White Americans and Japanese? Lets hope Al Sharpton doesn't think that.

The State of Korean PC Gaming 36

Gamasutra has up a feature on the world of PC gaming in South Korea, a country well-known for their love of online play. Nick Rumas, the author of the piece, takes us further behind the scenes of a country stereotyped by swarms of screaming StarCraft fans. He looks at what is hot on store shelves, discusses the reality of illegal game downloading there, and walks through the ten most popular online games in the country (StarCraft isn't even #1). From the article: "That, in a nutshell, is where the PC gaming industry in Korea currently finds itself. Physical retail is dead, and while that isn't going to change any time soon, it's a rather insignificant issue, because the online market is the only one that really matters here ... The world of PC gaming in Korea may massively dwarf that of consoles, but Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are engaged in their own little war on the peninsula, as well."

SethJohnson writes: "In order to raise funds to develop the University of Texas' upcoming Video Game Archive at the Center for American History, Richard Garriott is throwing a party at his Austin estate. Festivities will include Segway scooter polo, classic arcade games, a replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the chance to win a zero-gravity flight 32,000 feet above Earth. Garriott is best known as the creator of the Ultima series of computer RPGs and is working to support the video game archive so that early works in the field will be preserved for future reflection. Tickets for the fundraiser start at $75 per person and escalate to $5,000."
