Submission + - The Humble Indie Bundle (wolfire.com)

h4rr4r writes: The Humble Indie Bundle is a unique kind of bundle that we are trying out.

Pay what you want. If you bought these five games separately, it would cost around $80 but we're letting you set the price!

All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux. We didn't want to leave anyone out.

There is no middle-man. You can rest assured that 100% of your purchase goes directly to the developers and non-profits as you specify (minus credit card fees).

We don't use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely.

Your contribution supports the amazing Child's Play charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. By default, the amount is split equally between the seven participants (including Child's Play and EFF), but you can tweak the split any way you'd like.

And here is the answer people, Costco found a way to keep their prices low and still buy products legitimately; but the manufacturer cries foul because of copyright of all things? No, no, It was sold to a U.S. distributor, don't act like you didn't know it wasn't going to be sold in the U.S. and claim First Sale doctrine violation.

To be fair, most computer users have no idea that there is free AV out there. Perhaps that is something the author could have explained for a more balanced look at costs, but for a truly novice computer user AV is something most will end up paying money for.

I second the community college courses, but you might need to sift through till you get a good instructor. I lucked out in the ones I have had so far have been able to explain things quite well and have good homework polices. $60 a class is unreal though, mine cost about $350 per class.

I switched to a paid Usenet service because it was more "private" than torrent. Does this mean I'm going to have to back to BitchX and CLI to get movies?

/dcc send MPAA "my ass"

No, this is only an indexer of .nzb files, which are analogous to .torrent files; it was also a pay site, there are others out there that are free or automated with ssl connections, so I hear.

You may want to upgrade to an SSL connection though if you are worried, the ISP logs will still show you connecting to a usenet provider, but what you are downloading will not be discernible.

I'm beginning to think that everything will one day stream Netflix. It would be nice if Netflix would concentrate less on getting their service on my refrigerator and more on expanding their selection of movies and shows available for streaming. It doesn't seem to have improved all that much since the service started.

Because selection is dependent on the content providers and not technological limitations, which is far as I can tell are much easier to overcome. However, they have been working quite hard at improving their streaming selection http://criterioncast.com/2009/12/21/criterion-on-netflix/ http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-10426792-261.html
