Stallman Crashes Talk, Fights 'War On Sharing' 309

schliz writes "Free software activist Richard Stallman has called for the end of the 'war on sharing' at the World Computer Congress in Brisbane, Australia. He criticized surveillance, censorship, restrictive data formats, and software-as-a-service in a keynote presentation, and asserted that digital society had to be 'free' in order to be a benefit, and not an attack. Earlier in the conference, Stallman had briefly interrupted a European Patent Office presentation with a placard that said: 'Don't get caught in software patent thickets.' He told journalists that the Patent Office was 'here to campaign in favor of software patents in Australia,' arguing that 'there's no problem that requires a solution with anything like software patents.'"

For one thing, there's this place called Greenhills where you can get network unblocked phones for usually lower than what the carriers offer.

Considering his being a policeman, it could be that some other policeman friend of his could've just sold him a unit confiscated from a snatcher in Cubao.

Or it could be a more bland explanation, like being in the pay of someone. Corruption here in the Philippines is pretty in-your-face. If it surprises you that a low-income government employee can get expensive things, you might not be really from around here.

Submission + - KDE3 Fork In The Works

nicodoggie writes: A little over two years after Linux desktop users all over the world wailed in disappointment over the sub par KDE 4.0 release, a KDE3 fork, Trinity KDE is coming into being.

Apparently, there is a Live CD of Trinity KDE working on Ubuntu 10.04, but as of today, the Trinity KDE website is still recovering from hardware failure.

Will this project take off? Will KDE3 be back in the mainstream? Or have people moved on?

nicodoggie writes: Google reportedly lashed out against a move by Apple to bar Google's ads—the company's primary source of income—from being added into iPhone apps. Apple has also recently announced its own advertising platform called iAd. IANAL, but doesn't this smell like an anti-trust case?
