In the week following 9/11 there were no flights or contrails over the USA which provided an opportunity for an interesting observation on their effects on weather.

In summary, the contrails reduced the day/night temp variances by about 1 degree (more stable temps), but on the balance they do raise temps about 1 degree as they are artificial clouds that blanket the earth and prevent heat from radiating back into space.

Different communications have different levels of formality. Looking through my email, I'd guess about 40% should be chat, especially the Reply-All 'Thanks' or 'Lol'.
- Handwritten letter - A personal note to someone you care about.
- Typed letter - Legal correspondence, contracts
- In Person meeting - formal or informal meeting of importance
- Email - Formal Business communications that benefit from rapid delivery, multi-person distributions
- Chat - Informal business communications, ad-hoc meeting in near real-time. If there is formal content for records, it should be summarized in an email or document record.
- Audio/Video Conference - Tele-presence meeting as a substitute for in-person where real-time discussion is required.
- Forum - good for longer running discussions, helps, Q&A.
- Printed letter encrypted - Secure postal communications for the paranoid.

The phone was not in his hands nor on his lap, was not playing music or video, and the driver was not using it to talk to someone or navigate. The battery was, in fact, completely dead. Nonetheless, a judge has ruled that "by plugging the earbud wire into the iPhone, the defendant had enlarged the device, such that it included not only the iPhone (proper) but also attached speaker or earbuds," he wrote. "Since the earbuds were part of the electronic device and since the earbuds were in the defendant's ears, it necessarily follows that the defendant was holding the device (or part of the device) in a position in which it could be used, i.e. his ears." On the question of the battery, the judge said he relied on a 2015 precedent set in a Canadian provincial court, which says that holding an electronic device in a position where it could be used constitutes an offense, even if it is temporarily not working.
