I have a Brother color laser printer which was also not terribly expensive and I've been very happy with it, except that it periodically makes me pull the toner cartridges and move a slider back and forth for some reason. It usually has a paper halfway in that I have to pull out at the same time also. But I'd rather deal with that nuisance than HPs crap.

Now you are just being dumb. There is no way in hell to shoot down a balloon and guarantee it lands in a lake or river. It was high up and had a huge balloon which, even deflated, would catch the wind.

If this were a republican administration, I bet you'd be saying how genius this all was.

Oh for crying out loud, it was the smart thing to do. What if it had something deadly onboard?

And please, you right wingers only try to second guess our intelligence services when a Democrat is in the White House. If it was a Republican, you'd be crowing about how smart it was.

Did you ever think maybe we knew it was there all along? There are two other very good reasons not to shoot it down: first, we might want the Chinese to know our nuclear weapons systems are fully up to date and operational. Second, we might be feeding them false information.

Submission + - .us, .biz and .tv in registry tug-of-war

vanyel writes: I tried to new a .us domain with my registrar (apparently a small one) last summer, and was told:

We apologize for any inconvenience that this delay may have caused you. This issue is being caused by the .us and .biz registry that has recently been assigned by ICANN to GoDaddy. They have implemented a new system and different channels of communication with sponsoring registrars. This transition was supposed to be seamless. However, it has not been that way to the detriment of many smaller registrar companies. We have yet to receive an explanation or a solution regarding renewals and registrations and the fact that they are not being processed.

I ended up transferring the .us domain to another registrar that wasn't affected.

Now I'm trying to renew a .biz domain, and find that things seem to have escalated, as I can neither renew nor release the transfer lock so I can transfer it and was told:

We apologize for the inconvenience with this issue. ICANN allowed the transfer of these registries recently to a new registry operator who is also a competing registrar. We have been trying to contact them for 6 months while our access has been "mysteriously" limited. They only recently gave us access to the .tv registry in the last week however in doing that they have removed all ability to help our customers transfer domains out for all of their newly acquired registries. We have no ability to change anything that can help you release your domain to another registrar. They are holding us all hostage.

The new registry is GoDaddy. We have been asking for months for them to either allow us to help our customers transfer or for them to help them transfer out. They have not only not responded after 6 months of calls and complaints but they are using their position as a registry to openly go after our customers. This is one of the reasons we didn't allow registrars to also be registries originally, but ICANN apparently forgot that.

I'm hoping some publicity will knock some sense into GoDaddy...

No, because of the way copyright works, it does have to be that way. No game developer want their copyrighted IP associated with whatever trash game some dipshit edgelord wants to write. Yeah, sure, you can put Mickey Mouse in your loli-rape game. LOL, never going to happen, and you are dumb for thinking it's a good thing.

NO game company is going to let some other IP into their games. And very few games would benefit even from letting in the companies own IP, from other series. As a gamer, I do not want to see your cowboy in my sci fi game.

So, you'd have to give the companies control over what goes into their games. Making the whole concept pointless.

So not only are you wrong, you're an asshole about it to boot, because you haven't thought this through and don't have any actual, good, reasoned arguments in favor. You just want what you want. And critical thinking is obviously not something you want to do.

a simple hello world app should not have that many dependencies, on the other hand, a javascript web app is a gui and that alone is going to bring in a ton of crap.

I just got done moving a provisioning app (fed by xml, not a gui) to a new machine and had to deal with a seemingly endless bunch of dependencies - xml, database connections, service interface libraries etc. It's a nightmare, and yet the alternative is custom code in each app, which is a completely different, and much worse, nightmare.
