Comment Re:Libre Office (Score 1) 245

Why would a loner living in their patents basement need collaboration features?

I'll breakdown what I believe are the market segments:

Libre/Open Office = student MS Office = large corporation/government entity that lacks innovation and shares info in one direction (shit flows downhill) Google Docs = growth SMB collaborating and innovating

What do you believe?

I'm not american but the US dept. of the interior doesn't sound like a college to me

I use LXDE because it reduces the bloat of a clunky window manager. You do not really have this option in windows, you only have explorer. That's it. If you want an older version? You're suggesting downgrading to an older, about to lose support, version of windows? What kind of suggestion is that? I don't have to downgrade to a distro from 2002 to get a speedy desktop, why should I have to do that with windows.

explorer is the shell not the window manager, also unlike linux where desktop composition is sluggish most of the times, aero with gpu acceleration is much faster than gdi+, if the gpu is too old and can't run aero fast enough you can still disable it(like the win7 starter edition that's used mostly on netbook) or switch to the classic theme(like windows server)

The Linux kernel guys show that constant steady frequent releases are the way forwards, note to GNOME and KDE guys, you got it wrong.

I don't know about gnome, but kde release a new version every six months since 4.0

I wonder then if requiring all users to pay a 10c charge would stop piracy completely for site such as this.

actually most pirates that use sites like rapidshare are premium users, why do you think a lot of people cried when megaupload was closed also the free download speed is already below 200k most of the times, there is no point in using them if they are gonna be slower than torrent

Comment Re:93 million accounts? (Score 1) 68

Sony has over 93 million accounts? As far as I know only about 50 million PS3s have been sold, some to upgraders / replacers / theft or fire insurance claims, so there's probably less than 50 million PS3 user accounts. The other 50 million or so accounts are ... ?

I have 5 accounts myself, iirc 2 europeans, 1 american, 1 japanese, 1 hong kong, I bet others have more than one account too

Comment Re:#1 tool (Score 1) 226

actually cygwin is quite useless on a server, it's only useful if you need to execute bash scripts and you don't really want to write bash scripts on linux either, better use something like python
as for the article some of the tools seems quite "meh", they also put nmap two times since zenmap is included in the nmap installer for windows
also they didn't mention managepc (http://managepc.net/) it can read pretty much any wmi info from other windows computers without the need to install any client
