It only works like that on Windows. I think it's mostly about bad system design. I have no such issues on my Linux machine, but lots on my wife's Windows one. Both are the same Thinkpad laptops, so fault can only be on OS side.

I always thought that Cisco should almost give you those books for free, to make more CCNAs so it would be a no-brainer for companies which hardware to buy as finding support would be easier. But in the real world...
Anyway, all technical books are like that. MCSE from MSFT is 40 quid each.

You know what is the most terrifying?
I'm a foreigner in England and found that I know grammar and spelling better than most of my English friends. We're talking about people who passed through basic education system here, and at least half of them also through higher studies.
If you ask them about grammar, apostrophe rules or spelling they will just say they never studied this. Nobody ever though them this. Then you wonder why all this is in total shambles.

Problem is that all kids are prepared to pass those stupid tests and outside them they know jack shit. There are exceptions, but general population is similar to Idiocracy one.

Funny, I had a chance. Better still, that was in terribly underfunded eastern Europe where I'm from. I also know quite a bit about Sweden and Germany. NHS is terrible and extremely inefficient. Ineptitude of doctors is unbelievable. I personally go to clinics staffed by eastern europeans (as I speak the language). I pay half what British private charge, have a top notch service and have fun listening to stories how they needed to patch people after NHS. Especially dentists.

Btw, I actually gave quite a few examples which are not from press (I try to avoid tabloids of any kind, including The Times since Murdoch) and don't watch TV, except BBC News. Those are things I heard from people who actually work in healthcare.

NHS is the last example of socialised healthcare that should be quoted in any comparisons.

I also live in UK. Healthcare here is seriously fucked-up because of ineptitude of government. They were increasing wages of doctors to absurd levels while not providing better services. So doctors got used to. How absurd? GPs (first contact doctors) don't work on weekends. Average pay of GP is 100k, where average pay in UK is 24k. They are paid for number of patients they see, but at the same time they have a quota how many they can refer to hospitals. Hospitals are managed by managers who know jack-shit about doctors work. Standards are not enforced properly, therefore hospitals are dirty. Enough of rambling...

Yes, universal healthcare is a good thing, but as long as it's done properly. Most of the Europe is quite alright, with big problems mostly in Eastern part as lots of doctors left to work in the West because of lack of cash. Also to private practices.

What is happening in US is even worse than universal "commie" service. Costs are enormous (3x what it costs here) because of lack of proper competition and/or oversight.
