The problem with applying your conservative principles in this case is that the impacts from global warming will be upon us long before coal is no longer economically viable. Those making money from coal do not care about the consequences, since they're making big bucks while taking a small personal risk, whereas their profits have a negative impact on us all. If coal burning had no negative impact, I would agree, but since it does, it needs to be monitored and an alternative needs to be found

Bullshit

The Republicans are holding the budget hostage as a last resort to prevent a law that legally passed from taking hold (The Affordable HealthCare Act). They've been bitching and moaning for years about it, and now that its time for the majority of the law to go into effect, they decide that if they can't get their way (defunding the law) then NOBODY can have a budget

I'm pretty sure possession of pirated content is illegal too.

The problem with their argument is that it is impossible to determine what is piracy and what isn't. You can't block every .mp3 on thepiratebay: some musicians purposefully put their work up there. You can't determine it by file name: many artists use the same names for songs as existing songs...

You can look at illegal child porn images and instantly know that they're illegal, but you can't just look at a file and know either way if its illegal or not

Sure, but I don't have $30 billion to pay for all of those service's monthly fees. If everything was on Netflix, I'd get netflix. NOTHING is on netflix. However, everything is on the pirate bay, and its put up immediately, takes 20 minutes to download, I can put the file on any device I have for playback. Once again, its not a problem of price, but a problem of the paying service providing an inferior service

Exactly this. The big services (NetFlix, RedBox, HBO and other premium channels, Amazon, etc) are all fighting for exclusive contracts to entice people to pay for their specific service. Its bullshit; let all providers have access to all media, and let them win or lose based on innovation, not based on what they do and don't have media-wise

Imagine a grocery store that only sells General Mills products. You'd have to go there to get your cereals and all, then go to the Harrisburg Dairy's store to get milk. People wouldn't stand for that, I have no idea why they stand for the way movies are distributed.

Luckily, the torrents have everything, exactly when I want it
