I also was disappointed by MWO, but mostly because i came directly from the Crysis War Mod Living Legends. The mod itself is dead (as in no more development due to rights), but it still has a small devoted community playing it. It's got way more mechs and other vehicles but instead of a mechlab preconfigured mechs. Also a round tends to go towards one hour and the size of the maps allow for more tactics (also due to the possibility of buying resupplies and repair the mech)

It takes way more time to get into it than MWO, due to the heavy reliance on teamplay and resourcemanagement, but i found it to be way more satisfying than MWO (especially with their very stupid radar system).

Valve Offers Free Subscription To Debian Developers: Paying It Forward 205

sfcrazy writes "Valve Software, the makers of Steam OS, is already winning praise from the larger free and open source community – mainly because of their pro-community approach. Now the company is 'giving back' to Debian by offering free subscription to Debian developers. This subscription will offer full access to current and future games produced by Valve. Since Steam OS is based on Debian GNU/Linux it's a nice way for Valve to say 'thank you' to Debian developers."

I must be doing something wrong. I use Yatse in tablet mode to control my media on xbmc, and i would never ever use a different interface again. Just the sliders for volume and time position and the browsing of the library are enough to never look back to remotes, pads or keyboards again (for me).

Also, the GF LOVES it as a second screen device when watching movies.

I do video editing and 3D modeling, and i benefit GREATLY from having more stuff on the screen. I don't have to scroll around in the timeline as much and the toolbars don't take as much space, thus giving me more viewport estate.

Researchers Tout Electricity Storage Tech That Could Recharge Devices In Minutes 31

coondoggie writes "Vanderbilt University researchers say they have come up with a way to store electricity on a silicon-based supercapacitor that would let mobile phones recharge in seconds and let them continue to operate for weeks without recharging. The Vanderbilt team said they used porous silicon -- a material with a controllable and well-defined nanostructure made by electrochemically etching the surface of a silicon wafer. This let them create surfaces with optimal nanostructures for supercapacitor electrodes, but it left them with a major problem: Silicon is generally considered unsuitable for use in supercapacitors because it reacts readily with some of chemicals in the electrolytes that provide the ions that store the electrical charge, the researchers said."

i am very paranoid about the kinect 2, and will not use one until it's hacked - then we will find out. The hackers will be all over this box and will eventually find out everything about it.

I dearly hope it's something major, because that would damage microsoft. Then the government will have a taste of the free market mafia and that's where all the political influence comes from today anyway. *tinfoil hat off :)

you have good self control? good for you. now go work on stuff like "respect" and "not being a douchebag about things" because that's where you are sorely lacking.

a few years back, i have seen a demo where they used 2 cameras at the sides of the screen, made some interpolation vodoo and voila, you could look at the screen AND have eye contact. Worked like a charm. I always wondered why nobody included this in their notebooks, as it also worked "one-sided" where the user on the other side did not have this setup.
